We are a group of women passionate about the miracle of birth. It is our desire to support and empower you to have your best possible birth experience as YOU define it. We come to you with a variety of life experiences and education. We have all been trained by DONA the premiere certifying organization in this country. In addition, we are all certified lactation counselors ready to support you in breastfeeding successfully. We believe in and promote uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact for mother and infant in that important hour following birth as well as a baby-led latch for successful breastfeeding and maternal-infant bonding. What is a Doula? (pronounced doola)
Doula
The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.

Studies have shown that babies born with doulas present tend to have shorter hospital stays with fewer admissions to special care nurseries, breastfeed more easily and are more affectionate mothers in the postpartum period.

Numerous studies have revealed the benefits of having a doula present during labor. A recent Cochrane Review, "Continuous Support for Women During Childbirth", revealed a very high number of positive birth outcomes when a doula was present. When a doula was present, women were less likely to have pain relief medications administered, less likely to have a cesarean birth, and reported having a more positive childbirth experience.
