In 1933 William Hyde started Camera Craft in the basement of his home. He began developing negatives and printing pictures for people in the community. As business increased, Mr. Hyde was able to open a small photographic store and portrait studio in the 400 block on Court Street. After a few years in that location the business was moved to 905 North Main Street.

In 1937, Duane Gould, a Centennial High School junior, started working for Mr. Hyde after school. Mr. Gould immediately took a liking to photography. After graduating from high school, Mr. Gould was accepted at Rochester Institute of Technology where he majored in Photographic Technology. After his graduation from RIT, Mr. Gould was commissioned in the Army Air Corps as a Photographic Officer. Initially he supervised mapping operations for B-29 sites, and later he established and operated special processing laboratories until his honorable discharge in 1945.

Mr. Gould immediately returned to Camera Craft as a full-time employee. He worked his way through the ranks and eventually became a partner in the business. Camera Craft had acquired Schnarre's Gift Shop, which was being managed by Phyllis Gould, Duane's wife. In 1966 he hired his son Dave, an East High School junior. Dave continued to work part-time until his graduation from college in 1972, when he joined the business fill-time. Mr. Hyde retired, and Phyllis Gould joined Duane as a partner in Camera Craft.

In 1973 the business was relocated to 203 North Main Street. Over the next couple of years Dave overhauled the lab operations in the business and added in-store color processing capabilities. Phyllis continued to manage the gift business and Duane managed the retail sales operations, until their retirement in 1988.

Dave sold the gift business and became sole owner of Camera Craft. The aging color lab equipment was replaced, adding one-hour processing capabilities. The 20+ year old location had become cramped. Downtown activity was increasing and, lack of convenient, customer parking had become an issue. To address those concerns Dave purchased a building and moved the business to it's present location at 116 North Main Street.
