...Balance is the way of life.

Harmony Health Care is a medical clinic offering primary care using Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture. The clinic's setting is one that serves to give quality time and care to Logoeach patient. Each visit typically lasts around 45-90 minutes, ensuring that all of your questions are answered and that your whole health is taken into consideration. Treatments include but are not limited to: acupuncture, food therapy, lifestyle consultation, cupping, heat therapy, and oriental massage. Patent or custom herbal formulas can be added to  your treatment plan as well.

It is understood that patients may be receiving medical care/medications under another medical model (Western Medicine). Therefore, an integrative approach will be used so that the best health care is provided for an optimal well being.

What is Oriental Medicine & Acupuncture?

Oriental Medicine holds the human body in great reverence, respecting and promoting its endless capacity for rejuvenation and recovery. By harmonizing the body, mind, and spirit, we are able to help combat or prevent illness to improve the quality and duration of life.

Acupuncture in particular, is the use of very thin needles (the diameter of a strand of hair) on points that run along the body. The body has pathways, called meridians, thatAccuFace are said to hold energy called 'qi'. By tapping into these points with needles, massage (acupressure), and heat therapy, we are able to call the body to a state of self healing.

In Oriental Medicine, it is thought that when the body is ill, it is due to some form of imbalance. In short, we as Eastern Physicians aim to return the body to a balanced state. Because of this way of thinking, we are able to help with many ailments, even ones that other medical models have yet to identify.

The trained way of an Oriental Medicine physician is to diagnose and then treat based on that disharmony (diagnosis). In doing this, Acupuncture and the other therapies used are helping the root issue without ever covering up symptoms that may be alerting the being of a more serious issue. Because of this holistic approach, this philosophy of medicine may be one of the most dignified types of health care one can receive.

If a patient were to come in with pain and discomfort, we would surely focus on that symptom before treating other ailments and issues. However, with consecutive treatments, the body begins to 'realign' or 'harmonize' itself, not only ridding you of the pain, but creating a more healthier whole you! That is the beauty of this amazing medicine!

The first visit to an Acupuncture clinic can be somewhat foreign to most. Here is what you might expect in a visit that includes similarities and differences to other medical clinics. ...

AccuHandA new patient will fill out the basic paperwork, including a right to privacy form, as well as a medical history form. (Oriental Medicine Clinics are required to follow HIPPA and OSHA guidelines.)

The initial appointment will include not only discussing one's present concerns and ailments, but also one's medical history, (including prenatal and neonatal care). This first appointment takes longer than other appointments to ensure that the proper diagnosis is made and that the treatment is fitted to match your specific needs.

Specifically at the Harmony Health Care Clinic, one can expect a pulse and tongue diagnosis. Pulse diagnosis is a phenomenal tool used by most acupuncturists to tell them what is happening within the body. It is a very in-depth process that can help the physician know the very imbalances and needs of the patient. Tongue diagnosis is another tool used to help complete a clear picture of what the patient's diagnosis is.

One may have their weight, height, and blood pressure charted on a routinely basis.Massage Urine analysis also may be done if deemed necessary. Other medical facility's charts (x-rays, blood tests, etc.) may be included into one's file to keep a good recording of your progress.

Lifestyle advice and food therapy may be suggested, including pamphlets or print outs for one to take home. This encourages the patient to be a part of their health and healing process, which is a very important aspect of Oriental Medicine.

If you are interested in a diagnosis or education on your health condition, you may receive a 'diagnosis', but in terms of Oriental Medicine.  This is not the same as a Western diagnosis. It may sound unfamiliar to usual diagnoses. It will be explained by the imbalances occurring on a level perhaps undetectable by lab tests and x-rays. One can benefit greatly by being educated on these imbalances, encouraging lifestyle change that can bring about healing. Furthermore, asking questions/stating concerns are always encouraged to ensure a great healer/patient team and a positive journey to a happy, healthy well being.

Most patients will be encouraged to come in for treatments several times or at regular intervals (For example: once a week for 2 months). The theory behind the medicine is that the longer and more persistent the issue, the longer it may take for the body to be Guacompletely healed. As wonderful as Oriental Medicine is, it is not a 'quick fix' to life long disorders. However, most everyone will notice amazing benefits and relief to their symptoms with being treated only a couple of times. During visits to the clinic, one will be told of a prognosis and how often they might need to come in for the best results. Each person varies, therefore it is most suitable to have a 'tailored' treatment plan for each patient.

For an Acupuncture treatment, dress comfortably in loose clothing so the practitioner can get to all the points for that particular treatment. These can be anywhere on the body but are usually on the lower aspect of the four limbs, abdomen, back, face, and scalp. Typically one will be able to lay flat on their back or face down. In situations where the patient is uncomfortable or in pain while lying flat, one may be situated in a more comfortable sitting position or lying on one's side.  Accommodations are always made to make sure the patient is comfortable.

On average, a treatment lasts around 15 minutes. Most patients find this a very easy and relaxing state to be in and many have enjoyed a brief 'cat nap' while on the table. During the treatment or right after, other modalities may be used including; heat therapy, cupping, gua sha, and tui na. ...Cupping

Heat therapy used in either in the form of 'moxibustion' (the mugwort plant lit and used to apply warmth to a point or area of the body) or a heat lamp. The heat lamp has a clay disc, which is known for its great ability to send warmth and healing throughout the body. Most all patients find heat therapy a very relaxing addition to their treatment.

Cupping involves placing glass 'cups' on the body (mostly the back area) and creating a vacuum on the patients skin and tissues. This is used to move stagnation, tonify the body's weakness, and relax the patient. It brings great relief to those who carry a lot of muscle tension. (Cupping can sometimes cause temporary bruising and swelling which is most often painless. Patients are informed ahead of time if the practitioner feels this might occur. Inform your practitioner before this modality is used if you are opposed to any bruising. (ie- you are going to be in a wedding or wearing clothing that reveals your back)

Massage2Gua Sha is a technique used in Oriental Medicine that resembles a 'scraping' type of massage to the surface of the body (typically the upper back and neck). It can remove stagnation and tension and is a great technique for someone who has the cold/flu.

Tui Na is also known as Oriental Massage. It is massage that aims to coincide with the rest of the treatment. The techniques can range from a light wispy type of massage to a more vigourous method, all depending on your diagnosis. It may be used to increase circulation to an area of the body or to 'activate' particular Acupuncture points (acupressure).
