 ATTORNEY RUBEN E. ACOSTA

Ruben is a graduate of the University Of Connecticut School Of Law (Evening Division) and has been licensed to practice in the state and federal courts since 1984 with over 25 years of experience.

He might be an expert when it comes to the law but you will not find any ‘fancy technically correct advanced talking’ with him.  He understands that how much you know is irrelevant if you are unable to relate it to others in an understandable manner.  Ruben appeals to most of his clients on a personal level with many confidential referrals from friends, family and business associates.  He is accessible, accountable, competent and transparent and believes in extending each client the same professional courtesies as he would like to receive himself.

Ruben has a wide area of expertise since he has extensive formal training in arbitration, mediation, collaborative problem solving, conflict management and as an administrative hearing officer. He has extensive administrative and human resource experience and a holistic understanding of the employment process (union and non-union) in the education, municipal, insurance and manufacturing sectors. For over 15 years he has worked in the residential and commercial real estate markets. Ruben collaborates with another bilingual attorney in the areas of bankruptcy, debt re-structuring and sale-purchase of distressed properties (foreclosures, short sales) enabling him to offer additional services.

He conducts seminars in topics such as grievance handling, sexual harassment awareness, handling discrimination charges (state and federal), conflict management and collaboration, delegation and supervision and discipline. Conflict, he says, “often comes from perceptions and stereotypes”.  Ruben believes that “by agreeing in advance on what motivates our actions and affects our behaviors” we are able to change our way of thinking and can deal with conflict more effectively.

Ruben and his wife, a High School Spanish teacher, are both fluent Spanish speakers.

As part of a Faith based community Ruben is a Board Member, Counsel and Treasurer for Youth Challenge of CT. With his wife he heads Youth Challenge’s External Relations and Fundraising Department and teaches classes in leadership, conflict management and life building skills. Ruben is working on a book addressing Biblical principles related to ‘Conflict Management and Resolution’ and is hoping to share his book within in the next year.
