After Marty and Mary Jo Strussion purchased the property, they soon decided that it would be the perfect place to retire. The first 7 acres  of grapevines were planted in 2001. An additional 7 acres were planted in 2002. Caring for the vines by hand has quickly become a family affair.  The vineyard boasts 4 varieties of grapes: Chardonel, Traminette, Chambourcin  and Cynthiana/Norton. The first harvest of these vines was in August 2003.

Our tasting room is located on top of our natural cave wine cellar!  Start your cave experience here by browsing the gift shop and sampling wines made from grapes grown here at our vineyard.

Once you've selected your wine of choice, we invite you to enjoy the cave or take in the scenic views of the vineyard and rolling hills from the pavilion.

Picnic baskets are welcome, however, we do offer a variety of cheese and sausage and would be happy to pack a basket for you!

Saltpeter Cave

Very little has been historically recorded about  the cave. We do know that the name Saltpeter comes from the time of the early French Settlers. It is believed that they mined the cave for Saltpeter, which they used to make gunpowder.

Today, the cave is inhabited primarily by wine enthusiasts enjoying the sounds of a babbling brook and the taste of quality wines.

Helpful Hints When Visiting Cave Vineyard:

  • The cave is a short 200-yard walk from the tasting room. However,  we do offer a shuttle on most Saturdays and Sundays
  • Also, the cave is usually cooler than the outside air temperature. A sweater or light jacket may be needed.
  • Dogs are allowed on the premises but are not allowed inside the cave.
  • Picnic baskets, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome. Alcoholic          beverages, other than our wines, are NOT permitted on the property.
