In 1663, Peter Stuyvesant granted Lieutenant Hendrick J. Schoonmaker 300 acres of prime Rondout Valley bottomlands. For over 300 years this land, plus 500 additional acres that have been acquired over the years, has been farmed by his descendents. Saunderskill is one of the few farms in the country to have received the rare Tricentennial Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This local owned business has a very deep root here.

The farm is a bustling place most of the year.  The Greenhouse opens in early April with a full selection of annuals, perennials and vegetables. All our plants and nursery stock are grown in our 15 greenhouses. We carry seeds, pots, fertilizer, mulch, potting soil and tools for the serious gardener.

The Farm Market season begins on Memorial Day weekend. Strawberries, greenhouse tomatoes and asparagus are the first offerings of the season. As the season progress the freshest local fruits and vegetables are added. Saunderskill's Flower Garden supplies a bounty of fresh flower bouquets and seasonal table arrangements.

The Bakery features their famous apple cider donuts as well as an assortment of pies, cookies, muffins, scones and breads. All baked fresh daily before they open.

Saunderskill Farms offers special events all year around. It begins in the spring with free gardening classes with master gardener Diane Watts. In June come on by to pick your own strawberries. The fall season is full of activities for the whole family. They include picking your own pumpkins, hay rides, a free corn maze and an antique tractor pull.

This historic, local business is an integral part of what makes Ulster County so special.
