To understand the story of Boneheads you need to know about the people behind it. They were not businessmen, just chefs from South Africa and Atlanta. The chef from Atlanta was working on a new concept that offered people excellent quality grilled seafood dishes in a casual, but fast setting.  The chef from South Africa wanted to introduce the U.S. to his beloved Piri-Piri pepper sauce (we will get to what Piri-Piri is in a minute).  On a beautiful spring day in 2006, purely by  accident, the two chefs ran into each other, well actually backed their cars into each other. After getting out of his car and profusely apologizing to the South African, the chef from Atlanta declared “I can’t believe that happened,  I am such a Bonehead!”. Jumping out to view the damage, the other chef agreed that he too was a Bonehead. The two chefs struck up a conversation, had a good laugh, and the rest as they say is history.

Today, the wonderful, mouth watering taste of the Piri-Piri pepper, fresh caught seafood and out-of-the-oven chicken “collide” in our kitchens across the country. The sweetness of the pepper marries well with the grilled flavor of the meats. Our passion for only using fresh, local ingredients and producing great, healthy food that you can truly feel good about eating is no accident and if that is what it means to be a “Bonehead”……. shouldn’t you be one?

There’s a reason at Boneheads we like to say adventure is the spice of life. See, back in the old days when explorers set off in search of new lands, they’d come home with treasures, a variety of nuts and some cool t-shirts. Around 1574, however, Portuguese explorers in search of a short cut to the East stopped at a port in Mozambique to replenish their supplies and check out the nightlife.

While they were there, they discovered something that would change their lives forever – a tiny pepper. Piri Piri grew wild in the tiny South African nation, and as the Portuguese people discovered all the fantastic spices and sauces they could create with the pepper, explorers soon became settlers.

Maybe it was the flavors that the Piri Piri sauce brought out in the chicken and fish they cooked. Or the spices used with the natural herbs and oil to make marinades, bastes and dipping sauces that to this day make you literally crave more. Or maybe it was the rumored aphrodisiac qualities. (That’s probably why they went from being explorers to settlers.)

Whatever it is about the Piri Piri pepper, the unique and unforgettable flavor lives here at Boneheads. We invite you to take the adventure and savor the spice of life for yourself. We’ve also got cool t-shirts.
