“You can’t get very far until you start doing something for somebody else”
                                                  - Melvin Jones: Founder of Lions International

Our Mission: To create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world. To promote the principles of good government and good citizenship. To take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social, and moral welfare of the community. To unite the members in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding. To provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by Club members. To encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, profession, public works, and private endeavors.

About the Berlin Lions: The Lion’s Club of Berlin, Connecticut, INC. was chartered in 1941 by and under the jurisdiction of the International Association of Lions Clubs and Incorporated under the laws of the State of Connecticut. Currently standing at 118 Active members and 23 privileged members, the Berlin Lions club is recognized as one of the largest clubs in District 23-B. Annually the Berlin Lions club sponsors the Berlin Music Festival, The Berlin Fair, and donates to numerous charities through-out the town (such as Berlin Up-Beat, Berlin First, American Legion Baseball, Scholarships, DARE, and the Fidelco Guide Dog foundation).

Why Join?
The Lions club of Berlin was founded on November 17, 1941 by community minded citizens. The club fosters a strong commitment to the community and has actively championed a wide range of projects.

Lions Memorial Pool was built by Veterans returning from WWII who wanted a safe swimming pool for town children. In 1947, the club built the first community swimming pool in Berlin. It was named Lions Memorial Pool in honor of those service men and women who fell in defense of our nation.

The Berlin Lions Agricultural Fair was started in 1948. The fair promotes and preserves CT’s proud agricultural tradition and heritage. The Fair has become a major service project as it provides community organizations an opportunity to promote their own fundraisers. Funds raised through the Berlin Fair are returned to the community through service projects, direct donations to community organizations, and to support foundations supported by CT Lions District 23-B and Lions International.

The Berlin Lions Music Festival was started in 2000. Proceeds have helped fund and construct Friendship Place, a Boundless playground, and have helped finance the operation of the Lions Low Vision Center.

What is involved?

The Berlin Lions club is a group of men and women that are bound by the same desire to serve the community of Berlin. Regularly scheduled meetings provide a forum for planning and organization for the numerous projects the club is always working on.

How to get involved?

Getting involved in the Lions Club of Berlin is as easy as placing a phone call. Contact 1-877-828-0063 for more information. While membership is by invitation only, a phone call to express interest is a wonderful way to start something that will effect the way you look at your community.

The Lions Code of Ethics

  1. To show my faith in the worthiness of my vocation, by industrious application to the end that I may merit a reputation for quality of service.
  2. To seek success and to demand all fair remuneration or profits as my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the price of my own self-respect lost because of questionable act on my part.
  3. To remember that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down another’s; to be loyal to my clients or customers and true to my self.
  4. Wherever a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position or action toward my fellow men, to resolve such doubt against myself.
  5. To hold friendship as a end not a means. To hold that true friendship exists not on account of the service performed by one to another, but that true friendship demands nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given.
  6. Always bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my state and my community, and to give them my unswerving loyalty in word, act and deed. To give them freely of my time, labor and means.
  7. To aid my fellow men by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy.
  8. To be careful with my criticisms and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy.
