Preschool Programs

Preschoolers are eager to learn, exploring the classroom environment with curiosity and purpose.

Sunnyside's approach to learning includes an emergent and project based curriculum that integrates the philosophies of The Creative Curriculum, Montessori, High Scope and Gardeners Multiple Intelligences. By blending the best of several different styles we are able to create an atmosphere that enables and encourages children to become self directed, independent and capable initiators of their own learning while also receiving focused teaching times. To successfully gain new skills and knowledge, academics are woven throughout the curriculum creating meaningful and relevant experiences in literacy, science, art, math, music and movement, including an introduction to sign language and the Spanish language.

The children are encouraged to make independent choices in a child-centered learning environment with opportunities for hands-on learning that allows them to grow through play and real-world experiences. Daily activities are scheduled providing opportunities for children to create, communicate, and collaborate with others while learning in whole group and small groups that encourage socialization, caring friendships, self expression and community building. Print-rich classrooms enable children to be immersed in literacy acquisition, developing letter and word recognition. Ample time is allowed outside each day to promote good health, large muscle development, coordination and fun!

Throughout the day your child's physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development is nurtured in a warm, caring, safe environment, providing them a solid learning foundation and the early skills needed for a smooth transition to kindergarten.
