Quad City Montessori School (QCMS) is dedicated to providing high-quality, private education based on the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori, Italy’s first female physician. The aim of QCMS education is to foster competent, responsible, adaptive citizens who are lifelong learners and problem solvers. Our program nurtures each child with the ideals of respect and caring attitudes for oneself, others, the environment, and all life are equally necessary.
To accomplish our goal, QCMS seeks to meet the physical, emotional, social, aesthetic, intellectual, and cognitive needs and interests of each child by providing an individualized, child-directed, hands-on learning experience. QCMS follows a child-centric approach in our classrooms and your child's learning occurs in an inquiring, cooperative, nurturing atmosphere where students increase their own knowledge through self- and teacher-initiated experiences. Learning takes place through the senses. Your child will learn by manipulating materials and interacting with others. These meaningful experiences are precursors to the abstract understanding of ideas. We are committed to providing a prepared classroom environment designed to meet the needs of the two-year-old child through 6th grade child fostering a desire to learn and where learning becomes its own reward.
We believe the principle of freedom within limits guides independent learning. We expect each person in our Montessori community to accept that freedom with due responsibility and respect. We value the contributions of our students, teachers, administrators, parents, and Board of Directors. Together, we will continue to provide a high quality, safe, nurturing Montessori environment.
QCMS is affiliated with the American Montessori Society. Our pre-primary program is licensed through the State of Iowa.

Montessori Pedagogy.

Dr. Maria Montessori, physician, anthropologist and pedagogue, studied children of all racial, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds for over fifty years. Her intense scientific observation of the human being from birth to maturity allowed her to distill a body of philosophical, psychological and pedagogical principles. These, together with a vast range of auto-didactic materials, came to be known as the Montessori Method of Education.
Montessori pedagogy is a comprehensive and continuous response to the vital exigencies of the total human being, adapted to each stage of development.
Key aspects of the Montessori Approach include the Prepared Environment and the role of the Montessori Teachers.
Quad City Montessori School environments are offered from two-years of age through 6th grade.
