Details
Max teaches woodturning at The Society for Contemporary Craft in Pittsburgh, and a variety of woodworking courses in his own studio. He has given presentations for The Woodworking Shows, and at many meetings of local woodworking and woodturning organizations. His work has been shown at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Coca, and Boxheart Gallery in Pittsburgh, and at an annual cooperative show at DesignSpace Pittsburgh. Most of his clients are from the western Pennsylvania area, but his works may be found throughout the United States, and as far away as China.
Working in a style that has been termed "eclectic", Max favors clean, contemporary lines with the absence of superfluous ornamentation. His goal is to reflect or amplify the setting and the people who commission the work. The content may range from highly charged symbolism to pure whimsical humor. He has a strong commitment to sustainability, and favors woods and materials indigenous to the area where the piece will reside.
