Details

The vision for the AVLT is to be an all inclusive demonstration of all AV legacies including individuals, groups, organizations and our dedicated Non-profit Community.  We thank and appreciate our early founders and arrivals for following through with their ideas and beliefs which have set the table for all of us to enjoy.  It is in the shadow of their commitments that we who call AV home have thrived and it is in that spirit the AVLT is presented as an unique symbol of community pride, recognizing all the legacies which contribute to our better way of life.

The Apple Valley Legacy Trail Organization (Steering Committee) is a group of High Desert residents who share a common vision: to reclaim, revitalize and repurpose, for our community, the iconic and historic Hilltop House atop Bass Hill.

The property known as Bass Hill and/or Hilltop House (APN 3112-181-01) not only represent the epicenter of Apple Valley origins and cultural development, but also offer far reaching educational, civic, economic and environmental benefits. It is our vision to showcase our Town’s unique history, and literally provide a long-range vision of it’s future by saving this recreational hilltop haven. The dilapidated driveway, now used as an unofficial and unmaintained hiking trail, would be reclaimed as the Apple Valley Legacy Trail (AVLT). The Hilltop House (HH) will be repurposed as an observation deck and ideally home to educational displays about the unique history, biology and architecture related to this magnificent location.

The long-range plan would include features such as:

A HH observation deck with a 360° panoramic view
Picnic and contemplative areas
Hiking and horseback trails
Pavilions, memorials, monuments, plaques & bricks to celebrate the lives of those who have called Apple Valley home
AVLT Center where historic items and memorabilia will be displayed
We believe this appropriate use of recreational space has the potential to stimulate economic growth and contribute as an economic catalyst to the adjacent, local and regional commercial and retail districts.
