Dick Church’s originally started as Baby’s Beef Burger in 1947, and since then has changed owners and names several times. Names like Bud’s Beef Burger and The Coffee Tree eventually gave way to Dick Church’s Family Restaurant in 1972, named after the owner at that time. The King family purchased the restaurant in 1981, elected to retain the former owner’s name, and has owned and operated the restaurant ever since.
Dick Church’s Restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA has remained relatively unchanged since its inception. With the exception of some minor remodeling the restaurant virtually looks the same as it did in the ’50s and ’60s. Even the cash register is the original black model from 1947, and the booths remain that classic orange color from the 1960s. One thing that has changed is that the walls are now decorated with classic pictures of Orange County’s past which are always fun browse when you come in.
The food at Dick Church’s can best be described as truly classic American cuisine. Breakfast items are still one of the most popular meals, and are served all day. Most everything is still made the “old-fashioned” way. From our homeade soups made daily in our kitchen, to the freshly roasted turkey used in all our turkey dishes, down to our delicious freshly made pies.
Our customers feel like part of the family. So if your looking for “down home” American cooking served in a warm environment, come to Dick Church’s Family Restaurant, and see what local community tradition feels and tastes like.
