In 1973, Terry & Deon were in the small skiing/fishing resort of Big Bear Lake, Ca. …when, much to their shock, they realized that it was time to come up with a livelihood!! Imagine that. They looked around the area, realized that they had zero carpentry skills, and so decided to try starting up a business in something that they DID know about and love: Music!

So, they scraped together enough $$ for 400 LPs , 88  8 tracks (an archaic form of taped music), 3 cassettes, along with various candles, incense, macrame’ and other goodies …and The Long Ear was born.

1985 was the year of the The Big Move. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, the site. Even though The Long Ear went from 3000′ to 1700′…..life was good. Son,Victor was 9, and helping out in the store.

Fast forward to 2010.

The ‘Ear is back up to 3000′. We stock over 18,000 new titles on CD plus lots of used CDs,  & some choice new & used vinyl.  Yup – we love to buy good used titles on vinyl & CD.  Need more space AND more $$? Why not bring in those boxes of goodness that you haven’t listened to in ages – and get more of both??

We’ve also expanded into a whole new realm of body jewelry, gift items, clothes, posters, stickers, tapestries…and more new surprises weekly.We have great employees & lots of nifty electronic ‘tools’ to help you find that perfect CD.

…and now we’re on the Web and even have a ‘virtual store’ in your home!!
