XProHeli's story begins during a video shoot when a professional RC helicopter pilot was supposed to show up and film aerial shots in the Ochoco forest of Oregon. That guy never showed up. Hans Skjersaa decided to take matters into his own hands, and he began researching ways to capture high quality aerial video with relative safety and cost. One thing led to the next and before long, Hans and Wes were pushing homebuilt quadcopters to the limit. Even losing one in Tumalo Falls.
Thanks to Hans and Wes, we now have the most powerful, lightest, and stable quadcopter on the market for aerial video and photography. The size and portability of the XP2 allows you to quickly transport, fly, and capture amazing aerial videos almost anywhere.
Development is never standing still around XProHeli for work is currently underway for a new XP6 Hexcopter with a self leveling gimbal and tilt control.

Disclaimer - This is not a toy. The XP2 Quadcopter is a serious professional video capturing device. The props are sharp and can cut fingers off and can cause serious injury to you or people around you. Most multirotors can also cause serious damage to property as well. Anybody flying the XP2 Quadcopter or any multirotor RC unit are held liable for any damage they may cause while flying. Do not take this lightly and make sure you are ready to fly before you attempt any movement. We recommend anyone who plans to pilot any RC unit first learn to fly on a a flight simulator like "Real Flight Basic".
Aluminum Frame - Better Than Composites
Why aluminum? We've selected aluminum as our material for the XP2 Quadcopter frame because of its strength, weight, ability to bend corners and ability to hold threaded pins. We've also been told it's more environmentally friendly.
The result is a frame that is truly original and unique. It’s lightweight (and often lighter then comparable composite frames), easy to put together, and has minimal parts.
What we deem as the biggest benefit is that if you crash and bend a piece on your XP2 Quadcopter, you really only need a bit of muscle and maybe a pair of pliers. With carbon fiber or plastic, once it's broke, you're toast, Straighten your aluminum frame, replace a prop or two if broken and you're back in the air.
The main body has been designed with an open compartment to mount the internal electronics: gyro, receiver, and speed controllers. This internal compartment helps protect your quadcopter’s electronics from damage in the event of a crash.
New Bi-Deck vibration dampening system - Say goodbye to to jello!
The biggest hurdle in creating usable aerial video is fighting vibration. The XP2 frame is the only bi-deck floating frame with special rubber vibration dampeners to fight against camera vibration. Vibration is simply a pure evil to digital cameras, and is often refereed to as the "jello" effect by many who have fought it. The Bi-Deck frame is an essential feature for getting solid aerial video with cameras such as the GoPro, Contour HD, Sony Nex-5 and other lightweight HD cameras.
The XP2 frame is designed for flying with a camera mounted on the front camera mount which is attached to the front landing gear. The battery is offset by the battery tab, which acts as a counter balance to the camera. We've designed the landing gear arms to flex a little bit to reduce the amount of vibration that causes the dreadful “jello” effect while filming. To further reduce vibration, we've attached foam padding around the two front landing arms. This also helps provide directional indication if bright colored tape is used as you'll see in many of the pictures located in our Photo and Video Gallery.
The DJI Naza-M Board is The Brain of the XP2 Quadcopter
The XP2 Quadcopter comes standard with 2 programmed flight modes: Manual (for smooth buttery shots), and Altitude Stable Mode (self stabilizing with barometric altitude hold) using the Naza-M Flight Control Board from DJI Innovations. This is one of the newest and most popular flight control boards on the market.
We recommend flying in manual mode for the smoothest results. However, if you are just learning to fly, the Altitude Stable Mode is a self stabilizing mode that makes flying much easier.
GPS Module (optional upgrade)
The DJI Naza-M Flight Control Board can also be equipped with GPS which include features like Return To Home (auto return to home and landing activated by switch on radio, or if radio turns off) or Intelligent Orientation Lock were no matter what orientation the quadcopter is at, the GPS unit will automatically adjust stick inputs so that the quadcopter flies like its facing away from you. (activated by switch on radio).
If the GPS signal is good enough, the system will automatically trigger "Return To Home" and land safely if your quadcopter loses communication between the Radio Controller and the Transmitter.
Note that we cannot guarantee that the GPS features work 100% of the time. GPS is reliant on many factors like satellite signals, programming, hardware and pilot knowledge of how to use GPS. There have been reports of people loosing their multirotors when they don't know how to fly and rely too much on the GPS feature.
In order to use all the features of the GPS module, a Spektrum DX8 controller must be used. XProHeli will not upgrade any XP2 from an XP2 Basic Quadcopter to an XP2 Quadcopter + GPS after purchase, so please purchase accordingly.
Powerful Cobra Brushless Motors with APC 10" Props
The XP2 is equipped with high power, high performance, and high quality brushless Cobra motors. These motors are some of the best around and will outlast any cheaper motors on the market. With these motors the XP2 is capable of lifting a payload of up to 400 grams (a GoPro with waterproof case is about 180 grams). You certainly can buy cheap Chinese electric motors elsewhere, but you will not get the same results and reliability as these Cobra motors.
You'll also receive one extra set of props for the XP2 Quadcopter which includes four 10" props (2 pushers and 2 pullers). These props are designed to perform with high speed motors, like the Cobra motors. If you use gaui or other cheaper props with high speed motors they will break during mid-flight.
Powerful 4400mAh 11.1V 30C Lipo Batteries
The XP2 Basic RTF Quadcopter includes 4 x 3-cell 4400mAh lipo batteries that have a flight times of 7-10 minutes depending upon payload weight. These batters charge in 30-55 minutes with the included balance charger. The Sky Lipo 4400mAh 11.1V 30C battery is the grab and go battery of choice here at XProHeli when in the field.
