Twice a year, Bruce and Andrew hold business meetings in Bend. One evening in 1993, after one of their meetings, Andrew and Bruce were walking around downtown Bend and spotted a “For Rent” sign in a window. Impulsively a $1,000.00 check was placed under the door with a note to the landlord regarding their serious interest in the location. After driving Bruce to the airport in Portland, Andrew returned to Bend to sign a lease and hunt for a contractor. Three months later shop # 3 was opened.
Nestled beside the Tower Theatre this shop was 600 square feet in size and was strictly a take-out business. Even so, success was immediate in this rapidly growing outdoor town.
Five years later in 1998, the sub shop was moved to the other side of downtown Bend on Bond Street opposite Deschutes Brewery. This move was a sound one, providing ample seating in a 1,200 square foot location. For 15 years, locals and tourists alike satisfied their craving for fresh baked subs and addictive chocolate chip cookies at the downtown lunch spot.
With our recently opened Midtown location on 3rd and Franklin, we noticed a lot of the customers that normally drove to the Downtown shop for a sub were showing up at Midtown due to ease of access and easy parking. Over the years we constantly heard the locals asking for a Westside location. So, when the opportunity to move to the corner of 11th and Newport came up, we jumped on it. We have now closed the Westside location.
