Osborn MetroPark
Find out more:Osborn MetroPark, which is located in Huron Township on Perkins Avenue, south of U.S. 6 between Huron and Sandusky, offers its visitors 163 acres in which to enjoy nature and recreational activities. It is also home to the Maple Grove Center, John G. Frost Center and the Wilbert Schrader Interpretive Panel Center. Please see our brochures for more detailed information about our facilities, programs and reservations.
Acquired in separate parcels, the park's first and largest area of 160 acres was donated by the Erie County Commission who purchased it from the state in 1974. The land was formerly the site of the Osborn Prison Honor Farm, which mainly grew potatoes for other state correctional institutions. Osborn MetroPark was dedicated in 1975 in honor of the Myron D. Osborn family who settled the area in the mid 1830's.
Home to a large number of school, church and athletic groups as a practice and competitive events location, Osborn MetroPark is a resource for many. Reservable meeting rooms, picnic shelters and ball fields are a popular and economical choice for several area residents and organizations.
Programs staff provide area schoolchildren with a variety of nature and recreation programs throughout the park district and within the schools. For many years, a large number of Erie County kids have enjoyed coming to Erie MetroParks' Summer Nature Day Camp. Each year, new theme weeks are developed covering everything from dinosaurs to space travel.
Recycling facilities are located within Osborn MetroPark as a convenient drop-off spot for area citizens.
