We carry numerous varieties of non-invasive bamboo suitable to growing in the Northwest.

Most of the bamboo that we work with are non-invasive types...yes, there really are many non-invasive ones. The bamboo plants listed below are species that are typically available in our area and perform well in the Northwest. If we do not have a bamboo listed below in stock we can help you find that plant or a similar one. Give Phil Comer a call at 360-490-2379 or email Phil@outdoorsbydesign.com for more information. Leslie Coulter, Travis Meyer and Phil Comer

Outdoors By Design LLC

Leslie Coulter started Outdoors By Design in 2000 providing landscape design services. Her new company was the result of a long search for a career that satisfied both the desire to create beauty as well as to have technical challenges to meet. After more than 20 years as a software engineer, she went back to school studying horticulture and learned that her skills as an engineer and project manager, surprisingly, easily translated to landscaping. Leslie's primary responsibilities include landscape design and business matters.

Adding Travis Meyer to the company was an easy choice. Though young in years, Travis has been in the landscaping profession since 1997. His broad experience with landscape installation, varying from setting plants to laying pavers and setting large boulders, along with his education in Horticulture allowed us to greatly expand our services. He is the "can-do" man who ensures that everybody's designs are implemented well, and is responsible for day-to-day operations.

Phil Comer joined our team in 2007 merging his business, Halfside Bamboo, with Outdoors By Design LLC. He, too, was another Horticulture student. Phil brings his tremendous knowledge of bamboo and nursery management to our company, allowing us to further expand and create a specialty nursery. Phil is widely known throughout the bamboo industry and enjoys educating people about bamboo whenever possible. Check out his Bamboo Blog. Phil works with us to install the landscapes and is our nursery manager.
