Something for everyone
The front is reserved for mixed martial arts classes, including Brazilian jiu jitsu and muay thai. The back space is the new home for Kardio Kickboxing for Women, which moved from a storage space above the Academy of Kung Fu and expanded its offerings to include Hatha yoga classes. All for adults 18 and over with the Academy of Kung Fu next door for the kids.
Our Instructors, Training for Adults
"It's not just kickboxing anymore," says instructor Josette Hollingsworth Other instructors at Kardio Kickboxing for Women are Lisa Scrimshire, Shannon Werner, Deena McGhee and Michelle Slape. Steve Larson says "I wanted a facility that was adult-oriented. It allows us to expand our kids' program," In fact, East West MMA has a sign posted out front restricting the facility to adults 18 and older. Steve Larson said he wants adults to feel free to train without children running around and eventually plans to build an inside door between the two facilities, which will make for easier access for families taking multiple classes at the same time. East West MMA has four certified MMA instructors, and the gym will likely be training competitive fighters. However, the focus of East West MMA will remain on training rather than fighting, so all students can get a workout without being worried about getting injured, he said. East West MMA is hoping to attract professionals who want to train but can't afford to risk injury that could cost them time at work. East West MMA is open Monday through Saturday with classes in the mornings and early evenings.
