Have you ever heard the expression “It gets in your blood…”? Well, that must be how Daisy Newson was feeling while looking for her next challenge when she came across the Bubble Tea Café (BTC) in Harbison. You see, Daisy opened her first restaurant at the age of 19 and by the age of 26 was managing food and beverage operations for Hilton Hotels. After a recent stint of taking a break from work for a couple of years, she began to get “the itch” again to open her own business. When Daisy came across the BTC she was familiar with the brand concept and excited about the idea of owning it, believing it could be a successful business, and offer our community some diversity in its mix of restaurants and conventional coffee shops. So she made an offer to the owner at the time, and has reopened the BTC at their location on Bower Parkway next to the Regal Cinemas.

Boba (or “Bubble” in English) is made from the Cassava root. The recipe originated in Asia and has evolved over time. This Bubble Tea is made from and original blend of infused tea and natural flavors served over “Tapioca Pearls”.

“I eat healthy everyday,” says Newson,”that’s part of what attracted me to this business.” BTC hot teas are healthy Ayurvedic teas containing the healing elements of Kapha (water), Pitta (fire), and Vata (air), and Bubble Tea Cafés are the only ones that carry these kinds of teas.

BTC carries Green teas which have a high level of caffeine (25%), Herbal and Oolong teas, as well as Rooibos tea (with 0% caffeine) which actually eases insomnia and hypertension, while their White tea is high in anti-oxidants and anti-aging properties.

With 90+ degree days upon us, hot tea, although much healthier than coffee, may not be what you’re craving, but BTC will not disappoint you as they also carry wonderful and healthy iced teas like Carolina Sweet Tea, Georgia Peach, and Mango Madness. As part of their signature bubble creations, try the local favorite the “Gamecock”, an infusion of chocolate, cherry, chocolate syrup and strawberry popping pearls that burst with juice in your mouth, or try the popular “Tiger” which is an orange creamsicle and vanilla with popping orange pearls.
