Although his camera went missing, the interest Matthew J. Wagner had in photography did not. A self-taught photographer he recalled his first point-and-shoot camera he had received as a gift from his mother to take on a trip to Italy. His first pictures were less than ideal, but there is no doubt that the photographer has since mastered his craft.
Weddings are a large part of his business, however, increasingly couples are hiring him not only for the “I do” but for the “yes” moment of the proposal. He has done countless engagement photo shoots, getting the couple way from a studio setting and out to places that have meaning to them, or engaged in activities they enjoy. The process, he said, is an important one not only for the couple but also for him as a photographer.
Matthew J Wagner was described, on wedding planner Kate Parker as “a master of his craft. The camera is merely an extension of his heart.” Described by his peers as a rare talent and a ‘natural’, Matthew is thoroughly at home at a wedding. Modest but passionately buoyant, he connects easily with his clients, uncovering emotion and hidden meaning not readily seen by most. When asked what he strives for most in his work, his perfect answer is “I’m just looking for images that move me.”
All too often MJW hears the common complaints about how people think they are not photogenic. “I hear that all the time. It means I haven’t worked with them,” “My job is to make you look great, feel good about yourself. I truly believe everyone is beautiful in one way or another: for some its internal, for some its external. I love finding what that is and bringing that out. To bring that internal thing out, that is magical, I love it.”
