Brewer’s Alley’s location at 124 North Market Street is steeped in Frederick history. The firstBrewer's Alley residents of Frederick held a lottery to raise money to build a town hall and market house on our location in 1765, which was completed in 1769. This structure served its purpose for over 100 years and was witness to the birth of Frederick as a city.

Brewer’s Alley, Frederick’s first brewpub, is proud to have Brewer's Alleymade its home in one of the city’s earliest and most important structures.

The building was raised in 1769 to accommodate Frederick’s first Town Hall and Market House. It served its purpose for more than 100 years and was witness not only to the birth of the city of Frederick, but also the Civil War, including the ransoming of the city by Confederate General Jubal Early. As Frederick grew and prospered into the 20th century, the location functioned as government offices, then an opera house and theatre. Here, such diverse events as a memorial service for President McKinley in 1901, and the Frederick debut of D.W. Griffith’s film, "The Birth of a Nation," were hosted.

We opened the doors in July of 1996 and have been serving great beers and wonderful meals to the masses ever since.

Year Round Craft Beers1634 Brewer's Alley

1634 Ale
"1634 Ale" was created by Tom Flores, master brewer at Brewer's Alley, following research of historic recipes and raw materials available in centuries past. "We used ingredients that would have been found in the austere conditions of early colonial Maryland," said Flores of his rye-based ale recipe that also includes malted wheat, molasses and caraway. Flores says caramel and dark malts round out the flavor of the "lighter bodied ale."

Kölsch Kolsch Brewer's Alley
This style originated in the area of Cologne, Germany. It exhibits the more desirable features of both ales and lagers. Our Kölsch is pale gold with light body and a slightly dry palate. It has a mild bitterness and delicate hop aroma. This beer is a clean and pleasant thirst quencher, which earned a Bronze Medal at the 1998 Great American Beer Festival. 4.6 - 5.0% alcohol, by volume.India Pale Ale brewer's alley

India Pale Ale (I.P.A.)
A British style, the I.P.A. originates from the aggressively hopped and high-alcohol beers which were shipped to the British troops in colonial India. Pale to medium amber in color. 5.0 - 5.4% alcohol, by volume.

Nut Brown Brewer's AlleyNut Brown Ale
Another British style that has a roasted nut-like aroma. Brewed with a number of dark malts, which lend a complex malt character. This beer does not have a lot of hop bitterness, only enough for balance. 5.2 - 5.6% alcohol, by volume.

Dunkel Weizen
This is a dark version of the weizen beer style. The grist contains a large portion of wheat, which lends a distinctive note to the malt body and aroma. This style is traditionally un-filtered and can have significant haze and cloudiness. Our Dunkle Weizen is brewed with a traditional Bavarian weizen yeast, which gives it a very pronounced clove and spice character, as well as a fruity aroma. 4.4 - 4.8% alcohol, by volume.

Oatmeal Stout Oatmeal Stout Brewer's Alley
Yet another British style. Stouts are black beers which have strong roast and burnt characteristics. The dark malts used give this beer a wonderfully rich aroma and taste. It is not hopped very heavily and oats are used in this particular style because they lend a fuller mouthfeel. 6.0 - 6.2% alcohol, by volume.

We also have a host of Perennial and Seasonal Beers throughout the year!
