I grew up in Nezperce, Idaho, the youngest son in a family-owned newspaper business. It was my lot in life to "mind the shop" on Saturdays, while my perents chased a golf ball or two. After watching the presses grind out paper after paper, Saturday after Saturday, I was quick to say "no thanks" when my father offered me the business.
After all, my great accomplishment as a freshman at the U of I was my expertise at Foosball. I was so skilled that my pop suggested that I might want to try to direct that enthusiasm toward my studies. But I decided to direct it toward my 5th grade bad mitten partner. Yes, we were the champions, yes I married her, and yes we still find things to talk about.
Fifty years later, what am I doing-PRINTING- and still minding the shop on more that a few Saturday. I guess it's in the blood.
