David and Kim met on the Garden Island of Kauai. They were both working at the Princeville Hotel on the North Shore. David moved to Kauai from Park City, Utah where he enjoyed skiing, fly-fishing, mountain biking and camping. Eager to return to the ocean, he and his brother Richard decided on Kauai. Kim moved to Kauai from the big city of Dallas. She had been a VIP Manager for The Anatole Hotel, and had taken care of such luminaries as Colin Powell, Margaret Thatcher, Barbara Bush, Bob Hope, Henry Kissinger, Jeff Bridges, Magic Johnson, Larry King, to name a few. It was an exciting career but her heart had always longed for Kauai. David worked in the fine dining restaurant, La Cascata. Kim worked as the Assistant to the General Manager. David worked nights and Kim worked days so their paths never crossed. But . . . as luck would have it, one night Kim and her parents came to La Cascata for dinner to celebrate her Mom's birthday. You see, Kim's Mom, Phyllis, loved their rack of lamb! David tells the story and remembers the exact section of the restaurant he was in, even the table number! It may seem cliche but it was love at first sight for both of them. Four months later they were married on the beach in Hanalei, with a traditional Hawaiian ceremony. David grew up in a family of photographers. His Mom and Dad had a successful portrait studio in San Diego and specialized in weddings and portraiture. David began his love of photography by working side by side with his father in their darkroom at their home at the age of 14. His camera traveled with him around the globe in search of outdoor adventures. Kim and David celebrated their second anniversary with a trip to Central Oregon, fell in love with the town and moved to Bend in 2006. They came with their two dogs, Sam and Buddy and later added Cocoa to the Pack. They call Bend the "other paradise" and the rest is history! Their love story continues.
